Ceramics Work Based Learning at Haywood Sixth Form Academy

The Work Based Learning pathway is a pre-traineeship. This is an education and training programme that combines beneficial work experience with 2 days in the class room and is focused on giving you the skills and experience that employers are looking for. We will place you in a Ceramics company of your choice relating to your career aspirations. We have multiple placements to choose from with some of the biggest companies in the area.

Work-Based Learning is an exciting new initiative that is designed to help you get the future career that you want!

The programme been designed with leading employers such as Steelite International, Dudson, Michelin and Autonet Insurance. Haywood Sixth Form Academy has partnered with a number of local businesses to offer a range of placement opportunities covering diverse disciplines such as Engineering; Law; Health-Care; Sport and Retail.

Course content

You will study functional skills to a minimum of level 2 in Maths/English and IT for two days per week at the new Haywood Sixth Form Academy located in Burslem
You will gain a BTEC level 2 certificate from Edecxel supported and assessed by your learning tutor from Haywood Academy for the three days per week work based element of the programme.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements.


Financial informationOn-going assessment, with regular visits from your assessor, who will visit you whilst you are on your work placement.  The course is a level 2 standard. The qualification is coursework based with no exams.

The course is open to anyone who is aged 16-18 on the 31st August, in the year that the course starts

Whilst on the Programme, you will receive a termly allowance of £250 – £500, which will be more than enough to cover any expenses and reward your continued commitment.

Future opportunities

This programme will equip you with the skills to become a sought-after member of any employment team.  This will lead to an apprenticeship or job at the end of the 15-18 month programme.

You will qualify with an Edexcel-assured Level 2 Employment Certificate, which includes employability skills and functional skills – English, Maths and ICT.  The Certificate will be very marketable to employers.

You will gain an Employer’s Reference, which will increase your future job prospects.

Before the end of the Programme, our Careers Officers will help you to enter paid employment or to continue your training – whatever is best for you!
